Time at the Beach

Time at the Beach

There is something about time at the ocean that allows me to
enter God’s presence in a real way.  It’s
a place that I find true rest.  I’m able
to set aside life’s demands, the piles of laundry and the constant ding of my
inbox.  I find I can let down and feel
free to be me.  I’m unhurried, I can
enjoy the beauty of God’s creation and I allow myself the ability to just let
go. The smell of the salt water and the soothing sound of the ocean waves draw
me in and somehow God’s presence is tangibly near.  After all didn’t a lot of Jesus’ ministry
take place by the shore?  Just thinking
about time at the beach stirs my soul.  I
can just sit, soak in the sun, and rest. The truth is I don’t get to go the
beach very often.

Somehow I must find a way to bring my time at the beach into
my everyday life – to experience God’s presence and allow myself the freedom to
set aside duty and responsibility enough to enjoy the gifts around me.  I need to let go of the long “to do” list and
savor my friends, my family and the ability to just rest, be present, enjoy
life and abide with Jesus.

These are no easy tasks, but they are essential for life in Christ.  I don’t think I can ever fully become all
Christ intended me to be without slowing down enough to just be in Jesus’
presence.  When I do this, I am renewed,
changed and ready to face life with new energy and enthusiasm.  I serve and love others better.  I’m more content and thankful for the life I
have – even all the demands.

Somehow time at the beach helps me enter this place…I’m
going this week.  I hope to bring it back
with me.
