Happy Fourth of July! I do enjoy this summer holiday and even more so the celebration of our freedoms. It is good to remember our ability to speak and move freely in our society. We also can determine, to a good degree, how we live and where we work. As an American citizen I am free to enjoy a broad range of life here in this country. Political freedom. Thank You Lord.
And with this freedom I always like to reflect on the freedom I enjoy in my spiritual life as well. I take time on the fourth to thank God for our country’s freedoms and thank God for the freedom from guilt and sin that I have in Jesus Christ.
Then, in that same time of prayer, I free myself from any resentment or ill will I have against anyone. I reflect on the idea that Jesus sets before us in the prayer He taught: “If you forgive others their trespasses, then Your Heavenly Father will forgive yours.”
I take a good minute or more and think through any resentment I have taken on in the last few days or months. If anyone has tried to hurt me, I recall that person in my mind, forgive, and let that incident go.
And then the freedom to enjoy God’s presence greatly increases.
“And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you.” (Mark 11:25
Freedom in Christ. Thank You Lord.
