…Whoever Refreshes Will Be Refreshed
I had an unexpected meeting the other day and was surprised at the great blessing it was. An older person of the faith was meeting with one of my teams to bring support and encouragement. He said God had laid on his heart, Proverbs 11:25, especially the second half – whoever refreshes will be refreshed. He wanted to come to this meeting with that kind of presence. He wanted us to be refreshed.
When I think of being refreshed I think of all good things – feeling strong, healthy, rested, read-up and content. And to think that as we generously share our gifts we are in a sense “refreshing” those around us. What a great blessing.
A refreshing glass of cold water. A refreshing moment in a relationship. A brisk walk on a warm spring day. Physically being refreshed is fulfilling.
What does spiritual refreshment look like? There are times when the ways we have done things no longer “work” anymore. We need to explore new ways to be filled with scripture, prayer, to lean into deeper relationships of faith, to turn new corners and let go of the things that were.
God is always doing something new. God is continually wanting to refresh us and to bring us to a deeper place with Him. As we seek to know God more intimately, let us think creatively of ways we can refresh others by serving them and blessing them. The byproduct is that we too will be refreshed in the very act of generosity.
Take time to read over these verses in the different translations and ask God who you need to refresh. How are you refreshed?
Proverbs 11:25 New International Version (NIV)
25 A generous person will prosper;
whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
Proverbs 11:25 English Standard Version (ESV)
25 Whoever brings blessing will be enriched,
and one who waters will himself be watered.
Proverbs 11:25 The Message (MSG)
25 The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed;
those who help others are helped.
