With Grateful Hearts

As we sense this season of ministry drawing to a close, our hearts are filled with gratitude. Early in our ministry I remember a wise friend telling us, “Don’t let this ministry take over your lives.” I can’t say that we heeded his advice, but more that God got a hold of our hearts. I remember reading from 1 Thessalonians one of our first summers as directors and this thought deeply captured what I felt our calling was as directors.

“Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.”
1 Thessalonians 2:8

And so we have. It’s with grateful hearts that we step away. Grateful that God allowed us to be a part of his Kingdom building, grateful that God used our gifts, and that we got front row seats to God’s mighty work. Thank you people of Hope for your support, for your encouragement, for helping us grow, for trusting us with your children, young adults, and families. We can never fully put into words what this has meant to us or the precious memories that we will forever hold dear. (Side note: keep sharing them because we are growing forgetful!)

We’d be remiss if we didn’t take this moment to say thanks to:

  • Our camp ministry team members that span 18 years: We would have been lost without you.
  • Our camp staff: You are what kept us going all these summers. You hold a part of our hearts.
  • Our extended family and friends that are family: You are the ones who loved on our kids, fed us, and did the driving we couldn’t do. You are our true ministry partners.
  • And to our kids Cooper, Eli and Lauren: Thanks for the sacrifices you have made for mom and dad to share our hearts and love with so many other kids. We pray that being a part of camp will forever shape you and keep you close to Jesus.

David and I are the biggest fans of Hope Shores and what God does there. We will keep praying and cheering this ministry on. It belongs to the Lord and we are confident that he who began a good work at camp will be faithful to complete it.

**A special thanks for the reception held in our honor on July 30. We were overwhelmed by the number of people that came, the words shared, cards written, and gifts given. We are humbled.
